More accurately - how safe or unsafe a particular move is based on how long it takes player A to recover from performing it, vs. how long it takes player B to recover from being hit by or blocking that attack. In most Fighting Game’s, attack and recovery timings are measured in frames, whereas in For Honor its typically measured in milliseconds. The same rules still apply. The main time frame advantage is brought up in For Honor is in regards to who recovers first after an attack chain. If player A ends an attack chain with a heavy attack, then they have frame advantage over player B, meaning if they both threw out a light attack immediately, player A’s would hit because they recovered first. If player A ends an attack chain with a light attack, then player B has frame advantage, as they recover first. This is done as a way to counter “light spam,” so that the other player has a turn to play the video game - but this does not mean that the player with frame advantage’s light can’t be blocked or parried. There are of course exceptions to the rule, so knowing the matchup is key. Warmonger has frame advantage after her bash light, Highlander is plus on hit or block with offensive stance lights, and both Orochi and Zhanhu can cancel their recoveries with dodges.
